DR. WENDELL MARGRAVE

Dr. O. Wendell Margrave, a musical genius, played 20 instruments, was director of the Washington Musical Institute, formerly conducted the Arlington Symphony, and was the music critic with the Washington Star and Post newspapers for 22 years. Margrave served in the Navy in World War II, earned a master’s degree in psychology from the University of Chicago and a doctorate in musicology from Cornell. A dear friend of the artist,. the two met several times a month for many years in Johnston’s DC studio, performing chamber music by Beethoven, Fauré, Mendelssohn, and Mozart, to name a few.
