TEMPERANCE

Temperance

Temperance is a calm but firm figure and makes an ideal fountain piece with water spurting up onto the young woman’s hands from below. The work looks inwardly in contrast to the artist’s earlier subjects which often extend outward. The internal tranquility of this figure represents a wholistic awareness of the sanctity of the body as the vessel of the soul. A sense of calm surrounds the figure; one critic has called her beguiling. Both sizes can provide a fountain centerpiece.
